not if the car was made before 82 iirc or if the moter stands a metre to the side of the rear cluster and can see the front indicator
If the car came fitted with them form the factory, they need them for the MOT regardless of year. End of, no if's no but's.

That's weird as my friend who also happens to be an MOT tester checked and confirmed that this was not the case? I've then subsequently checked at other MOT stations, in particular pertaining to a mk2 Golf built in 1991, smooth side repeaters are a no go. Subsequent to that, rule of thumb is that if it has side repeaters from the factory it needs them for the MOT.
