As my car collection reduces and i am slowly reducing down to 3  cars (sports car, daily driver and classic). I decided to go car 'window shopping' for a sports car before winter sets in.

Well the last months been a bit of an eye opener.
I took a couple weeks off to go do some test drives, im not ready to buy yet (didn't tell them that ) but thought I better do some research for when I am.
I  thought I knew what I was after and had narrowed it down, but it turns out, I was completely wrong.
So I visited some exotic dealerships for secondhand cars, and also some main dealers. I sat in and tried some of my dream cars.
Sadly after driving a few there was just something missing and I guess it was a bit like that blond bombshell at school. Great to look at, a real goer, just missing that something.....
Anyway
I test drove a few and ruled them out which suprised me, the GTR (fast and clinical), 997 turbo (quick and quality), R8 v10 (lovely sound and quality)
I was getting more puzzled as the week went on, but it was the guy at the Porsche dealership who figured it out.
He took me over to his cayman S and said something like, try this I think its what your looking for.
He was right I was looking at POWER and acceleration. Cars, with huge performance as males do (some females as well of cause) but what I was probably wanting but didnt know (I still don't really know), was a balance of everything, Enough power, good brake feel, steering feel, balanced chassis, quality build, ability to brake traction sometimes, everything to just jell, the fun factor I guess.
Whatever it was i was looking for i had found it, there was just something that the other cars didnt have were this one did were i just didnt want to stop driving it.
So I knew what I wanted, well untill we tried the 981 boxster. So I now need to decide roof or no roof..... Not again!..

If it's a fun car for the odd Sunday morning or day trip to the coast, I'd say no roof. Mother-in-law has an MX5 and on the rare occasion when I have driven it, it's been a complete hoot...until I get into a town where the roof has to come up. I don't like being on show and am fully aware how a 44 year old man looks in a convertible.

People will go on about flex and lack of precision compared to the hardtop, but within the limits that the roads allow, I doubt that really matters one bit.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Had a Toyota MR2 roadster recently absolutely brilliant! flexing chassis...NOT..on B roads it couldn't be touched. My next car will be a blue Fiesta ST with some tunning!
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

I looked at an Octavia when I bought my Passat. I found a lovely vRS with very high spec, but they can only tow 1500kg. That's no good to me.

I've not bought a 'new' car for over 10 years Charlie, so my wish list, or wallet has yet to catch up with MQB platform cars.
