Return of the real GTI?
« on: 08 July 2011, 16:37 »
Well, being the owner of a Mk5 and Mk1 (currently sorn) I do believe this is true..

I Have owned the Mk1 for years but hardly even had it on the road before stripping it to restore it and its been in storage ever since.

The drives I had in it made me feel like a loon and the Mk5 does this too! I love the fact you can go back to being Mr sensible in the Mk5 after a loonatic blast!

Mk1 is getting done this year and as a first time buyer the mk5 will have to go to help towards a deposit for a house.

So itl be Mk5 to Mk1 in about a years time. I hope its as much fun as I remember and as much fun as the Mk5..

Theres only really about 15bhp per ton between them! Makes you wonder how fast the mk5 would be if you threw away all the extras a modern day car has..

You will find the mk1 slow, but much more pointy, direct and so full of feel. Its much more gocart in feeling.
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
34 years of GTI ownership.
