Windscreen complaint issue, opinions?
« on: 01 July 2011, 23:23 »
Right, i had a windscreen fitted on insurance roughly 2 weeks ago by a company i wont mention as its not necessary.

After 1 week it broke from a "stress fracture". Fair play to them as they replaced it free of charge last week.

So really no issues there, although i did have to argue for it a bit although i got there in the end!

Since fitting the new second screen last week i havnt washed the car to let the glue harden and also due to working a lot.

This is odd for me as im slightly OCD with cleaning and detailing my car.

I must also note a big factor in this is that my car was resprayed roughly 2 months ago and looks spotless.

Now i today was washing the car i find some black rubber mastick type glue on my wing in line with the windscreen on the drivers side, and on the passenger door the same stuff.

I stood and watched the screen being fitted both times as i wasnt going to have any rooky job or someone not taking care of my car but didnt see this happen. I admit i did pop in and out of the house for drinks etc.

I havnt removed it yet as its well and truely stuck to the car and i fear if i remove it from the paint it will leave a stain.

My car is black, so although any stain might not be noticable its not good enough.

If i remove it i would struggle to prove it was them.

The two bits are no more than 1cm in length.

Am i being picky or what would you do?

Give them a call, let them know what you found, take pics and email them to the company, explain it's only just been sprayed so you're worried what the glue will do. Might be worth while ringing around other windscreen replacement companies to use as an independent source and see if they think the glue could have damaged your paint.

Indeed. This is what i might do.

I suppose the real question im asking is, Am i being picky considering i already got a free replacement off them once and is it really going to damage the paint anyway?

Will take pics tomo!

I'd be doing the same if I'd recently had the car resprayed.
I'd ring round a few other wind replacement companies, explain it wasn't them so they don't lie to you and hopefully it'll just come straight off without any further probs :afro:

If the sealer is a very light thin smear, try some WD40 sprayed onto a rag, and wiped a few times. then try and roll the adhesive off with your thumb, neither will damage your paint, if it was baked and is now fully cured.  If this doesn't  do the trick, then you would be better off taking the car back to your painter first, for advice on removal, before contacting the screen fitter

After posting this thread IMO i forgot about it till i cleaned the car today. Picked it off with nail. Peace is restored in the world.

Thanks!
