Shall i get a Golf GTI Project??

Hi all, just joined the forum, i have been saving some money lately and after doing my rover 25 project i fancy a change....the golf :)

so any advise on what to do, im either going to turn a mk1 or mk2 gti into  a trak car or restore a shed to its glory?

Good idea, if you are going to track the car then I would go for a mk2, I prefer to see the Mk1's restored to their original spec.  Good luck whichever you go for. :smiley:

Mk2 is a good choice for a track car.

i have never owned a vw so any tips on how much i should pay for one?

i think id go for: 3 door and around 100k on the clock.

If it's a track car i'd imagine you'll be looking at doing some engine work anyway, a rebuild at least? So mileage shouldn't be the main concern.

The biggest thing to look for is rust, if you find a solid shell then your laughing :wink:

Sounds like you really need to decide what you want to do first.... Track or Minter, would be a waste to build a mk2 track car and then not really use it, or restore a mk1 to its former glory and then wished you'd built a track car.
