Emissions fail

Hi All

Got an issue with Mrs Ludwig's Mk3. Has failed MOT on emissions. So far garage has changed: plugs & leads, rotor arm & dizzy cap, Lamda switch. Compression test is all good (for a 130k engine) & there's no goo in the header tank. She runs fine but with a missfire between 2-3k revs. We've swapped the ECU from another car temporarily but the fault persists. fuel comsumption is terrible as it's running so rich. Any ideas?

had simailer problem change MAF sensor cat as had collapsed inside the put in lap top to find idle sensor fault, so changed throttle body no plblems now just flow throw mot on emissons just rear axle mounts and welding. all the best.

I would run VAG com on it.
ECU coolant temp sender is a good place to start....

Yes it does matter, the 16v does not have a MAF sensor.

Is the car a 8v or 16v?

Misfire between 2-3k (and crap fuel consumption) on my 16v was a perished fuel pressure regulator hose.
