Distributer problem?
« on: 06 April 2005, 14:58 »
Been having problems for a while now. I have a '91 mk2 gti 16v & the engine has been cutting out when the revs drop when you slow down, at junctions, roundabouts etc. Also, when cruising along at a steady speed the revs can drop slightly & become erratic. Had the distributer opened up & all these bits fell out.Had it cleaned out, now see what happens. Any thoughts?

Also, I am looking to change my tyres. Currently I have 185/55/15 on the bbs alloys. Looking to go to 195s' or 205's but not sure about what profile to go for. The car is still in its original state, lowered from factory by 30mm I think. I would appreciate any advice.

for tyres i'd go 195/50/15

not quite sure what your saying about the distributor? did you take the cap off and the stuff fell out or did you take the distributor out? and are you saying the problems happened when you cleaned it out or before?

The bits are falling out when the distributer cap is removed. Forgive me but what is a dizzy cap?
