Maybe the older mk gti owners are not aware, but that steering wheel that we dont want to damage is worth more than their full cars, thats why we are a bit more careful and cautious.

As an older Mk GTI owner as well as a Mk6 owner, I am full aware of how much certain parts of the Mk6 cost. It doesn't stop me having a go myself though.

With the Mk6, if I break something, a call to TPS and some money spent will see the part replaced in a couple of days. With the Mk2, if I break something, there will be alot of searching and probably quite a long wait until a suitable replacement part can be tracked down.

It's all relative really. With both cars, being carefull and methodical and most jobs will be doable with satisfying results.

I know just what you mean as I asked for advice on how to remove the door card when I had to change the door mirror on my car a couple of weeks back, but in this case, you had the replacement part in your hand. Surely this would have given a pretty strong clue as to how it was attached.

Again I wasn't questioning your practical competence, just making a generalisation about many of the topics in this section.

If you re-read the thread you will see i did not get the part till yesterday.  You will also see that i question how it maybe held on due to the layout of the pins only been half pins, which i have seen used before when things slide into place and locate not push in I also recalled  someone else ,SteveP iirc, a while back saying you had to remove the airbag to change it as they slide in. So i questioned how it maybe held on.
Sorry if this upsets you but i don't have £300 to throwaway taking chances maybe you do i don't. So i did the logical common sense thing and asked others who may have took one off before how it was held on.

Snoops was perfectly correct and cautious regarding installation of the wheel badge. Even my dealership was not too sure. I think dubber36 has lost the plot a bit!

I would like to but can't do it myself as I have only one strong functioning arm. I'll wait for Darren when he is in London next to do it to my steering wheel. He's very deft and I'd be daft to try it myself.

What's the tool like that you used to remove your badge?

Mine is a little loose at the top already so might mention it to the dealer when it is in tomorrow for the A pillar trims replacing(!)
