Uh oh

I was driving along in my 87 digi 8v today when I gave it a little bit of the loud peddle and the engine died away and stopped. Got towed back to my house (only 400m away but all uphill :().

Got back to it tonight and have had a bit of a play around and have found out that I have a spark but when I take either of the fuel lines off the injector rail and attempt to start the car no fuel comes out of them, is this to be expected? I changed the fuel fuse (5?) but this has not made a difference. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a fuel pump relay and what number is it? To test if it is a faulty relay which pins on the fuse board should I bridge?

I changed the relay and the fuel pump, now there is fuel in the rail but it wont run. The fuel pump is 2nd hand and is a bit noisy but I seem to think its that rather than the lift pump. I'll unplug the under car one and see if the lift pump primes, should I be able to hear it?

Just had a play around with my car. Here are the results.

I unplugged the under car pump and had a listen but couldnt hear the intank pump prime. I then unplugged the bottom line into the back of the pump and tried to start the car, no fuel came out of the pipe so it looks like the lift pump? How hard is it to change the lift pump?

I've heard the lift pump prime on both 8v and 16v so yes, you should be able to hear yours.
Changing it is a doddle pal.

As above. Once you've freed up the lock-ring and removed the fuel lines without damging them it just pulls out.iirc you have to put the big rubber seal inside the groove where it sits and slide the pump through it, rather than leave it attached to pump and try to seat it all back in. You'll know what I mean when you see it

Did i get the right pipe on the undercar one then? big one going into the bottom corner? I want to be sure i've got the right part before I buy it!

I'm not sure without looking where it feeds into main pump under car. If you remove the metal round cover in boot to expose lift pump look and see which colour hose is flow, and which is return (they've got arrows) you'll know if you pulled the right one...
