Is this not the USB one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-IPOD-ADAPTOR-MEDIA-LEAD-CABLE-/270741985880?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f097ada58

I'm going to see what TPS have one listed on Tuesday.

Yup exactly the same as mine, apart from the 3310 on that one and I have a 0910 on mine. Although the part number is identical.

Right, I've got the lead, pluged it in and nothing happens.

I don't know anything about these new fangled devises, so please bear with me. We have a Sandisc Clip 8GB MP3 player. It came with a short USB lead and a pair of earphones. I have loaded on some music and can play it through the earphones, so that bit works. However, when I connect it via the Media In socket in the car, nothing.

It has been suggested that I need a lead with a 3.5mm male plug on each end so that I can plug into the headphone socket and the the Aux In socket in the car. That would make sense as the noise comes out of the earphone socket, however data for the radio display and controls doesn't, hense me assuming it should be conneted using the USB lead.

I'm now thinking that the Sandisc only receives data via the USB lead (and not send it back out again), and only sends sound out via the earphones. Might that be right? If that is the case, it is not the right tool for the job. What device / player do I need that can be controlled from the head unit / steering wheel controls?

I'm confused (doesn't take much ) are you connecting the vw cable directly into the mp3 player? If so then it should work unless like you said the player will only receive media that way. I just use a 16gb sandisk memory stick and everything works a treat, this one:

But i didn't pay that much for it!

I've got the VW Media In - USB cable, and am plugging the MP3 players USB lead into that.

I'm just loading some music onto a memory stick to see if that will work instead.

I don't think the mp3 player will work that way but you already know that!  the memory stick should work though, fingers crossed.

Assuming you use windows here.

1. Insert usb thing into computer usb port.
2. Right click on the drive in windows explorer.
3. The dialog that is displayed will display its capacity in that box there will be a File System word next to it is the type it could be NTFS or FAT32 or something else.

Let us know if this is what you have and maybe we can format it to FAT32 if its NTFS.  It needs to be FAT32.

I still don't understand, but what I did was,

1. Plug the memory stick into the computers USB port
2. Put in a cd and Windows Media player automatically opened
3. Rip the cd
4. Right click on albums thumnail in Windows Media Library
5. Save in pre-created file on memory stick
6. Plug memory stick into the car and heh-presto it works

I guess my computer knew what I wanted to do, and did it all for me.

It's basically two types of format of any drive :)
I think it was a product of Microsoft and Apple and their fights to be the best to be honest, as I've got an Apple imac and my ipod doesn't work with my car, whereas my girls does who's got a HP laptop :) glad its sorted!
