Misfire at 5000rpm
« on: 29 April 2011, 22:07 »
I have just taken my 8v out for a little run after spending the afternoon claying the paintwork thanks to the recommendations on here (ps it's well worth doing leaves the paintwork feeling smooth as glass) and on the way back opened her up a little and at 5000 rpm the engine lost power? I'm not a mechanic so would be grateful to know what might be causing this.

Did it hit the limiter at 5k rpm or did the power just drop off?

Power just dropped off quite abruptly, throttled back a little and it seems ok but something is not right.

The engine basically has limited itself early as to not cause any damage. This normally happens when the static engine timing or a component related to the engine timing is faulty. Happens on the 16v too but from the posts here, more often on the 8vs.

Hope this helps:
