Havnt updated this in ages! not much has really gone on to be fair! latest news is the geabox has gone so im after one now and hopefully the project can carry on after sorting the gearbox out!

Had a look and there was no oil in the box it was just all over the bottom of it..couldnt find any damage so not sure what happend to the oil, removed the drain plug and filler plug and found loads of swarf in there, it just makes a really bad grinding and knocking noise when driving so think its fair to say its fecked!

Just a picture of the swarf that was on the drain plug alone

Will hopefully get a new box as soon as and get some progress pics up

Cheers
Matt

Looks an ok job but i'd guess the rust will be back pretty quickly. I'm assuming you got the grinder out & took it back to bare metal before any filling? The only sure fire way to get rid of rust is to chop it out & weld in new metal in it's place, but as a temp fix yours looks fine

Also try using thinner coats of paint next time

Should that have even been filled!?  :undecided:

To be fair the small hole should of been welded then filled, if the rust comes back il have to get it welded, only filled it to just tidy it up abit  so far rust hasnt come back

Time for a update

scince the last post i have now purchased a VR6 engine and gearbox etc to covert the 8v! taking things slowly at the moment as i havnt rebuilt a engine or any thing like that, im just tidying up the engine not going mad to start with

Today i whipped the gearbox off and gave it a good clean and degrease and a bit of paint looks much better, also took all the tape off the loom to check for any nasty stuff in there....only found a couple bits so hopefully the loom will be ok

just a few pictures for the time beeing

i got the engine for a bargain but theres a few bits missing so just taking it slow making sure i havnt missed any thing

Box is looking good! Its a bit harder doing that to the engine!

Shame you got an OBD1 VR6 engine as i guess from your reg the 8v was OBD2. Not that it matters i guess!
