I claimed off the council for my wrecked alloy / tyre about 8 years ago.
Took about 8 months with constant phoning / letter writing.
I eventually got all the money back but in that time I was running about with the spare on in case they wanted to see the damage in person.
Don't know if I could be bothered if it happened again due to the hassle but the more folk that badger them the more they are likely to act upon it.

If you do proceed, get pictures taken with a ruler measuring the depth, breadth and width.

This was part of my letter to the council!! The other pictures had my son with a steel rule showing depth etc.

http://www.potholes.co.uk/ has standard letters to send off.

p3asa. Simply cannot believe the depth of that. It's a ditch not a pothole.

Don't think the rim is damaged. I'm getting it checked in the next couple of days. Biggest shame it I can't just burst the sport and it heals over. Make me  as the tyres have only done 1000 miles or so...

Not quiet as deep as your but enough to feck the tyre

Check the inside edge of the alloy rather than near the face as thats the weakest spot of the alloy the inner rim.

My partners son is a mechanic, he thinks its ok after checking the inside like you say, I'm friends with a local tyre dealer I'll get them to take the tyre off and test it for me. I do hope its ok

Lucky I took some photos on Saturday as it looks like the council has already filled the pot holes on the road, I hope this strenghtens my case....
