Mud Flaps
« on: 31 March 2011, 07:40 »
Hello,

Anyone got mud flaps fitted?  After several hours cleaning off tar deposits, I got the dealers to fit front mud flaps when it was in getting some other work done.  If memory serves me right, I think the GTi flaps were around £15 more expensive than the other models.
After looking at a colleagues GT TDi who also has flaps, they appear to be identical to his!
Why have I paid an extra £15???!!!  Have they fitted the correct ones?  Should they have a GTi/VW badge on them or have they bumped me?

Cheers for your thoughts

There are a few mud flappers on here ;)

I'm thinking of getting some too

I'm told that the fitting on the "GTI/GTD" ones is different but I seem to remember that it is the rears only that are different due to the bumper shape/style?

Why this warrants another £15 is beyond me but economies of scale will play a part I guess...

Yeah, probably only the rears are different as the rear bumper on the GTI/D is deeper/larger than standard, whereas the front wheel arches are identical to standard - the side skirts on the MKVI don't "interfere" with the front wheel arch like they did in the MKV...

Mine were fitted all round when I picked up the car. Cant remember the cost but they are plain with no logo.

Well if you look in the Golf Accessories Brochure is says

Volkswagen Genuine Mudflaps
Our mudflaps protect the underbody, the bumper and the rear of your Golf from heavy soiling. Not suitable for R line.

For the front
Part number 5K0 075 111 - £62.00 ETKA says £34.73

For the rear
Part number 5K0 075 101 - £62.00 ETKA says £34.73

GTI models
Part number 5K0 075 105 - £78.00 ETKA says £51.06

So I wonder why the GTI is dearer?

I requested flappers on the rear but they told me the would not fit the GTi?
Well thats what the dealers told me.  I think they they would help a lot on the back as well.

Well that was a half truth from them - standards don't fit - they have to be the GTI ones so go back and tell them they need to get themselves sorted - the front should have been the same price as they are the standard ones? You shouldn't have paid £15 more for those?
