little help plz

so i scanned my 1.8t today and got this fault code 17978

ive looked it up and its_- 17978 engine expensive equipment closed.

does anyone know what this means

Isn't that the code for the immobiliser?  You had any trouble starting it or cutting out after fire up?

yer it started and then cut out today
did have the coolant temp sensor code come up last week so got a new one on order 

could it be linked to that?

sounds to me like its something to do with the imobiliser

as said sounds like something in the ecu immobiliser is not happy.. have you put new batteries in the key recently ??

went out for a drive last night to pick up my mum after she broke down

pulled up switched car off and removed keys ( didnt lock car)

got back in started car and it cut out twice straight away 

got home scanned car and same code came up.

no not put new battery in key.

only had the car about 2 months and never had this problem before
