Remapping Company Lease Car...Consensus?
« on: 22 March 2011, 13:43 »
Hi All,

I'm now on the home stretch of taking delivery of my GTI which I ordered way back in Sept 10...I've been religiously scanning this forum since getting cheap thrills!  :embarassed:

I've seen a fair few posts on remapping and although a complete noob to this I'm pretty attracted to the prospect of doing it based on the seemingly good results for relative small $$.  The problem is my car is a company vehicle on a 3 year lease.  I've seen the risks in not informing your insurance and the slight risk of invalidating warranty if detected.  In my case and any other who has considered this on a Company Lease vehicle, the risk is even greater.

So the question is has anybody else ventured down this route?  I'm looking at either Revo or Angel Tuning Stage 1.

Thx

The issue you is that the ecu has to be removed and you have to sign to say that any damage to the ecu isn't covered by them. So if they stuff it up, you'll have to pay for it. But you should always tell insurance :)

I think I would concur with that.
As I don't have the luxury of a hired car provided by my stingy unappreciative bastard employers  I have to pay my own way in life  But I do know of several people who use forums regularly who have gone along those lines with no issues.
If you're going to worry unduly then don't do it, it's not worth losing loads of sleep over. But if you're confident enough in what you're doing just go for it. You won't get any money back at the end of the lease so you just have to think of it as £500 invested in a bit of fun for 3 years. No different to paying membership to a Golf club or gym or something.

Why does the ecu need to come out for bluefin?

Superchips list the car on their website.

I tried it on mine and it failed to flash due to ECU scrambled , had to send Blufin unit back to superchips and they said only revo can do it but ECU needs to come out

Yes they may list it but it didnt work on mine, but havin said that not all mk6's are locked off  :undecided:

Thanks..As I thought seems to be a mixed bag.  Got a fair few weeks to think it over 1st anyways and there are a couple of other guys considering the same on their Golf GTD/Audi A4..I'm sure the extra 40 BHP stepping up from my Mk5 TSI 170 will give me enough ooomph for a while anyway
