Ive got some info on the engine and have been told that it was built by Grant Motorsport. Not heard of them but i will have a google later on.

Grant Woodhatch was the owner from memory, based in and the Bath area, was a bit of a wideboy tbh.

He built a few engines for the Vento cup cars so they might be left overs etc.

Ah right, thats handy to know, ive done a bit of googling myself and found these sites   http://www.grantmotorsport.co.uk/ http://www.grantmotorsport.com/ theres website is a bit buggy so i dont know if they are still going.

Yes i cant wait to get them stripped down and checked over, then the block will go away to be decked and checked and the head can go away for some tittivation!

I dunno if they're still around mate, but I'll see if they are.

Never heard of em tbh, but I only lived there for a year before moving down here 9 years ago.

Well now the weekend at work is out the way and i "borrowed" some steel to make my deat frames i thought id get to work today.

At 1st i thought id be able to utilise the old seat subframes so set about chopping them up.
Then after sitting the seats on the old subframes i realised i would have to chop a bloody hole in my roof so ive been forced to make my own subframes.

I chopped all the cleats and bracketry off the rx8 seats and that left me with a nice flat bottom to work with. :smug:

After that i thought id best take a few bits out the car to stop me burning stuff when im grinding and welding etc. This then turned into me ripping the front of the interior out including carpets and trim as i found what i thought was rust

Then i realised that is was a tiny bit of surface rust thanks fluck. The floorpan is actually one of the cleanest ive seen on a mk3 so im a bit chuffed with that.I will be tetrosealing the whole front end before i put stuff back just to be on the safe side. All grommets are healthy too.

Sooo after a lot of measuring, head scratching and redbull drinking a set to work with some 30x30mm box section,80x80mm angle and some 20x20 angle.

I doglegged the inner runner to follow the shape of the tunnel, then used some thinner angle to act as a cross brace,Sat the seat on top and then measured how high i needed to be.

I then tacked the 80x80mm angle on and tested and it was all good!

Ive just run out of gas so i will finish welding the dogleg up after another job in the morning, drill the holes in the angle and then weld the studs on the new seats to go through the holes. Then start all over again on the passenger side.

While i was out there i decided to get the 3.0 block up on the engine stand ready for some stripping tonight so i can send it away to get honed, decked and flushed.

After a lot of stalking ive finally got a reply off the owner of this engine from a few years ago!

"Hello mate! Sorry for the delayed response, been moving house and only just got tinternet. The basics of My knowledge of the engine were in the original advert.
I bought the car nearly 5 years ago now rom a Guy over Reading way. When I bought the car, the guy didn't know much about it, He only bought the car cos it looked nice!
I did a bit of digging as it had a club gti sticker in the window, and got a response rom a guy who knew the guy that built it many years ago.
He basically said that if the block was still blue in colour then it still had the grant motorsport engine in it. Sure enough it did. And it went well too, making 217.7 bhp.
I took the car off the road nearly 2 years ago to do a simple head gasket change as there was an oil leak from the side of the head, and it was smoking in the morning on start up due to valve stem oil seals. When I took the head off, I noticed the bores were slightly scored, and didn't want to risk rebuiding everything incase it was no good after. The project was put on hold and a mate of mine offered Me a newly built forged motor, so it made sense to buy his and charge it rather than rebuild the one you now have!
You can see the car it came from in the mk2's for sale section. I've now taken a deposit on the car which I'm gutted about but needs must at the mo.

I can't remember who bought the engine off Me. All I know is that He was from the North somewhere, and it was His sister who collected the engine off me and off it went in the back of her clio.

Sorry I can't be of much help about the engine itself. Hope you manage to rebuild it, let Me know the progress!

Good luck mate, Ash"

So there we go,looks like it is a Grant Motorsport engine.Ive checked the bores and there is a minute amount of scoring so im going to get them honed and the rings matched to the bores and i will take it from there.Result!

It also came out of this car which he has just sold.Looks nice too!
