Not sure about this.

My filler neck and petrol cap recess rusted through from the inside of the arch as it's a major rust trap. Adding anything to the bodywork that could potentially trap water behind it might be a bad thing in such a crucial area.

I'm being cautious only because I've been through the hassle of repairing the filler, neck and wing but thanks to some shoddy workmanship I'm going to have to get it done again. Joy.

DJ G - it may be water causing the car to cut out but it also might be rust as well.

As the neck rusts, some of it falls into the tank and although there are filters in the fuel line they won't stop everything. I was sucking up rust and it was blocking my carb, causing the car to cut out just like you are probably getting.

Eventually I had a new tank and filler neck put on and also had the carb cleaned out.

Whatever work you do around the fuel neck area, I strongly recommend you pack as much Waxoyl into the area under the wheel arch as you can to stop it happening again.

That's good advise, I need to pack some of that sh1t under mine

I had to throw away my pierberg carb and get a weber because of the filler neck. Luckly I've never had to have the tank cleaned and it runs great now
