What did you value it at with your insurance company? Your best bet is to look at adverts for cars similar to yours and use that as a base.

5k, i will look around.     but that 5k was 3 years ago.

£1500 - £2000 by the time they take off your excess I reckon.

Have you got any recent picture of you car that show it to be in good condition? Any recent receipts or history? If so compile it all into a folder, print off adverts from autotrader for 'immaculate' versions similar to yours and refuse their first offer.

I got an initial offer of £550 for my MK2 GTI, and held out for £900 eventually. The truth is that you will never get as much back as you want.

If you want to make the money back without going for compensation then your best bet if you have room is to buy the car back and break it.

Even if you don't claim for injuries, make sure you at least put a claim in for your excess and expenses!

Remember: the car is still yours until you have accepted the offer - make sure they don't take it away without telling you where it is going! Within an hour of phoning the insurers to report my accident, the local breakers came round to pick it up to be 'valued' and 'disposed of in a hassle-free way' so I sent them packing.

honestly they will look through glass guide... so fight the offer 9 out of 10 times the insurer will up the first offer a fair amount, but dont get your hopes up i cant really say who i used to work for but they didnt give a sh$t about what you spent on mods etc and its a shame, i cant say all insurers are the same but they will probably just look at the current market value...

after just going through this with my wifes audi, my advice would be to haggle on the price as they only give you bottom line, funny as it sounds wash and clean your car before the assessor come around as they marked my wifes car as poor condition for that reason.

save each and every receipt for petrol everything you can think of as without these they will not honour your expenses.

oh if you do buy your car back and think or fixing and driving it again remember your insurance will go up as it is a write off, also that there are limited companies that will actually insure it.
