I don't have a tracker but i do have a GSM system that i can track that also phones me if the car is broken into. Theres quite a few companies do similar systems to what i have.

Its just a GSM pager with a pay as you go phone sim card that phones upto 10 pre programmed numbers (you set it up with) until it gets a reply. If you register the sim card phone number with one of the many mobile phone tracking sites (designed to track your kids mobiles) you can track its location.

I had Tracker on my previous car - more for my benefit/peace of mind than anything else!

It's not designed as a detterent but is designed to return your vehicle to you thereby reducing the insurance companies costs and making your future premiums lower (as it would be a repair rather than a total loss on the insurance record)

When professional thieves take the car they will often leave the car in a quiet lane/street and return to it some time later (i.e. 24 hours+) to see if a Tracker type device has been triggered and the vehicle recovered!

I've not bothered on the GTD as the premium discount didn't make much difference vs the cost of install and subscription.

£179 fitted and £124 subscription per year for the basic retrieve option.
I'm thinking about it.
Anyone got one? How much did you save in insurance?

When I checked a year ago, my thieving Insurance Company offered me a £20 discount.

Just had a quote from Saga. £300 fully comp with a £75 excess. Must ask them about a Tracker discount.

You must be knocking on Asker to be with Saga

I've got a Tracker on my Mk5 GTI, didn't effect my insurance but it's piece of mind for me.  I got mine through Tracker UK and a local guy came and fitted it.  I paid £300 as one off subscription for as long as I keep the car.
