It'll run alongside the Eos and the new Beetle convertible. As well as the A3 cabriolet. Personally, I quite like it and would consider it when the 93 convertible is due for replacement in a couple of years. As long, of course, as it's cheaper than the Eos which has crept up to £25k territory.
The missus is adamant she wants another cabriolet and, therefore, wants to consider this Gold Cab but my point is quite clear. Why would I spend £25k on a VW when I could get another 93, or a year old 3 series for that money? The A3 cab is a joke for that money (and I hate Audis anyway) but the Saab and BMW are more prestigious for the money than any VW. The Eos with the TFSi 210 engine as an example is knocking £28k once you've stuck metallic paint on. And this, as I've said countless times before is VW's problem. They're charging prestige money, yet it's "just a VW".
So pricing on this Golf cab will be very important. And will ultimately determine whether I stay with VW and buy one or look elsewhere.
