Well, today I tried sourcing the leak I have in the boot. Whilst I locked myself in there with the tailgate plastic cover off, my mum poured water over the rear.

I noticed very large amounts of water coming in through the rear lock barrel. Not the barrel itself, but the plastic cylinder it goes in.

That cylinder also has a lot of play it in, it leads me to believe maybe a gasket or something has broken off...

Any ideas if the rear lock should allow water in, and if the rear lock should move about a lot?

the black push button thing which houses the lock barrel has some sort of gasket/sticker thing where it attaches the thing to the actual boot

I think it does have a gasket actually, however the plastic cylinder doesn't get pushed out all the way, making it water tight. I think I'm going to change that lock soon as it's seen better days.

They have a felt type washer as standard from memory.

I see. The seal in there now I think is rubber, but not 100% sure. I'll have a mooch around the scrapyard and see if any have felt washers or bigger gaskets?

Or make a seal out of a thin piece of rubber (old inner tube would do)

Water is coming in not only through the rectangular shaped lock, but also through the cylinder where the barrel goes in. That cylinder doesn't get pushed out all the way.

Know what I mean?
