golf vr6 mk3 gearbox removal and clutch advice
« on: 08 February 2011, 20:20 »
hi guys whipped the gearbox out of the dub today took about 2 hours not a bad job did it on my drive, car on axle stands, hardest thing was guiding the git out very tight on the subframe but do-able will have to have a friend round when putting it back in to pull the engine forward so i can lift it back in, having diff replaced to a 3.94 and having the rivets removed and bolts fitted to rule out any faliure of the box due to the rivet heads coming off and going through the diff and the side of the box. Found the clutch is about goosed anyone recomend a decent clutch that dont cost a packet, cars only used on the track

TECHNICLUTCH ARE sh!t.

there is absolutly nothing uprated fast road or performance about them other than they paint them pritty colours.  They will proably also send you the wrong one or it just won't fit on asking for a replacement you'll be told to just make it fit  ask for a refund and they put the phone down on you.

as for there performance,  A STANDARD VW SACHS CLUTCH WILL TAKE MORE TORUQUE. made the mistake of fitting one to an ABF with a 020 box it slipped like f**k std sachs held it no bother

there Full AP paddel clutches are even more intresting  it's an AP friction disk with a standard  LUK pressure plate,  nothing at all wrong with LUK clutches but parts of one been sold on rebadged as an uprated fast road clutch isn't on.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Sachs or Luk would have been the better choice.
