8gb no issues,

the Hard drive may have required some sort of power?

Can't substantiate this but I believe you can only play USB sticks with up to 2Gig capacity? My boss has a Rocko and he tried plugging his removeable HDD in! Apparently it didn't work.

Thankfully its not true.

I occasionally plug in my 500Gb hard drive with no problem.

Here also, 16Gb. Bought it from 7dayshop for about £12 delivered. Then just use mp3 tag & rename to add track and tag data to my MP3's. Works a treat

As for renaming your files you can easily do that on a computer. All my tracks are named Artist - Song title and thats how they show on the screen. You can make a Windows Media Play List the radio will read. MP3's generally have a tag that shows all the details of the artist, song, album etc that info also shows if you press the Info button. I don't know if it read it from the tag or the Play List.

I use a 2GB Kingston flash drive with 270 MP3's on it in 16 folders 3/4 full on my RCD310, you can read the Volkswagen Media Device Interface (MDI) Specifications, this is a useful site to keep in your favourites.

You can download the lastest Volkswagen Media Device Interface (MDI) Firmware Upgrade 0111 KW22-2010 with came out week 22 2010. I tried this when I had a problem with mine MDI firmware upgrade.

I also read somewhere that a user updated his firmware to the latest and when he took it into the dealers for something else they must have noticed now he says his warranty is void for doing his own updates. Well they didn't say anything to me.

There's a good, free, program you can download for block renaming and tagging music files called MP3Tag - I use it for everything I download from 'dubious' sources.
