Failed mot :(

Got a mk3 golf gti 16v put it in for not today and it failed :(

basically the guy said the emissions were too high but didn't really give me an explination anyone had this problem before B could be the cat I suppose but not sure as can't really test it
also the abs light will not illuminate before starting

Anyone able to help here it's urgent :-/

I would suggest sticking a full tank of vpower in there with a bottle of redex and giving it the italian tune up (not as extreme, but close).

You may find that it'll blow all the cobwebs out and pass  :smiley:

It may be a faulty coolant temp sensor as well.

Also pull out the holder for airbag/abs and check the wires have not been snipped. Previous owner may have done it to hide an abs fault

Emission were suppose to be 0.3 but there at 6.8 through the roof

I would think you have a lambda or temp sender problem.

Might also be the cat in trouble.

+1 with what wayne said , personly id steer clear of the old redex crap it can cause more problems inside the engine

is there definitly a cat in there, i would expect it to be lower than that even with a duff cat. it seems way, way over though my ABF was something like 0.3-0.8 without a cat!

get your fault codes checked, i would suspect faulty ecu temp sensor or lambda.
