FMIC
« on: 06 February 2011, 15:29 »
As i'm on the lookout for a FMIC so that i can get my KO4 setup running properly, i was looking on the net for cheap but decent intercoolers/kits, but ones that are good as well... and i found this

http://www.toyosports.co.uk/fmic-vw-golf-jetta-mk4-18t-turbo-intercooler-kit-18699-630-p.asp

my mate has used the equivalent of one of these for his Toyota Starlet (which is running a scooby turbo) and he said he hasnt got any issues with the one he bought performance wise.

Hopefully the setup is going to be about 270bhp when complete, which judging by the 400bhp rating, this will be fine.

What do you guys think of it - will it do the job well and cool the air down enough? Or be competent and not much better than stock SMIC?

Has anyone got one of these, and what you reckon the chances of me being able to fit it behind the bumper and cut the grills at the back so i can put them back in covering the FMIC?

I know its cheap, so is the a case of "you get what you pay for"?

Cheers

i got the same kit too, its bang on for the money, only downside really is you may need a bit or quite a lot of bumper trimming to get it to fit.

When are you thinking of fitting it mate? Would be appreciated if you could let me know how you get on and how well it works, are you getting the car mapped to suit when its on?

The bumper trimming shouldn't be a problem, a little more hassel, but it doesn't really matter.

Only other FMICs ive been recommended are THS and Forge, are just rather expesive, so if anyone has any recommendations from previous experiences with what they've used or what they have had bad experiences with, input would be greatly appreciated

And if you have one that you recommend - a link to it on the net would be fantastic

suppose the bonus with the forge and ths ones is the fact that there is no trimming but to me its still doesnt justify the price.

agree 100% if it is just for the fitting? but are there any gains to be had from performance by having forge or ths?

Only difference is the outlet on the Turbo right? Surely need one bit of bigger silicone to fit it?

I have ebay special intercooler with bigger pipework and mine seems fine.

You wont get your standard grilles back in with this intercooloer.
