I think they're pretty pants tbh, the beam patterns improved quiet a bit when i stuck some Phillips X-treame bulbs in but i wouldn't say they were spectacular by any means. And as for the output from the OEM fogs...pffft!

its a problem on a large number of cars really, many dont have any relays for the lighting system and if the power from the lights goes ign switch -> fusebox -> light switch -> lights then any car will suffer over the years from the same issue.

heres a great guide from matey-matey, take you thru everything thats needed. jsut adapt the diagram so there are 2 dim-dip relays rather than just 1!  main thing is to get the right wires to the right pins on the light plugs, plus get all the relay pins correct:

you can get all the bits you need from http://www.polevolt.co.uk

if you get the spotlight plugs make sure you get the right Packard Timer ones with 2 locking pegs rather than 1. made that mistake before and ended up with 10 plugs that i couldn't use

i adapted the matey matey diagram so i didnt cut into the OE loom. I just plug into one of the OE H4 plugs

I don't think a semi will give the same results

RJ, is this  near enough the same as what I've just done, The diagram seems easy enough to understand. With the electrical knowledge still fresh in my mind think itd be best to do this sooner rather than later!

emery: what have you done already?

adam: fogs are already relayed, or at least they should be! you probably wont notice a massive difference as they aint that bright due to the light pattern.  its worth taking them out to see how good they are inside, usually by now all the chrome has come off the back of the housing which makes them really crap even by mk2 standards. if this has happened then get yourself a pair of mk3 golf fogs and swap the backs over. the mk3 ones are metal rather than plastic so much better quailty than the mk2.

RJ- from what i can see youve used 10amp fuses while all the other wiring harnesses on market use 20amp.... is 20amp too much for a mk2??
