Late mk1 cab owners, put me out of my misery.
« on: 28 February 2005, 11:11 »
Some of you may already know that I've just had a new hood and headlining put on my cab, well, all seems ok but I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or what, my main concern is that there seems to be more wind noise at lower speeds than I can remember, particularly on the top of the windscreen. My question is this, on the inside at the top of the windscreen there is a panel where the interior light is housed and where the sun visors are, then there is the roof bit, I notice that there seems to be a gap of about 2cm or so between the two, I can't remember if that was always there or if something is missing, maybe a rubber seal or something when the old roof was taken off.  :undecided: Can someone check their cab for me to see if they have a gap or a seal.  :undecided:

I've just checked on my '89 Clipper.

There appears to be a thickish rubber strip running along the inside top edge of the screen surround. There is a black plastic textured fiitting which the interior light and visors are mounted on, and where this meets the roof is where this rubber strip is fixed. It's quite a tight fix, i think it may be glued on or be part of the rubber seal with fins on the very top of the screen (visible when roof down).

Hope it helps.

Phil

Further to the above, it may be fixed onto the leading edge of the roof itself.

Either way if it's not there then go break some kneecaps!

Thanks Phil. Do you mean the rubber seal that is on the top of the windscreen ? I know about that one. The gap that I mean is when the roof is up and locked tight and then between the interior light panel (which is on the top of the windscreen on the inside) then where the interior roof lining ends there is a metal strip that goes down with the roof, I've got a gap between the interior light panel and the end of the interior roof lining. I'm not making myself very clear here am I. :undecided:

I *think* I know what you mean - my description isn't too hot either!

As far as i can tell there are no gaps where the roof meets the screen frame - when it's locked down there is a thick rubber seal running the width of the screen frame which is visible from the inside. With the roof down where the headlining ends at the screen it then sits flush against this rubber seal. The leading edge bar of the roof also presses against it but this is covered completely by the seal.

If you can get a finger in between the top of the screen and the front edge of the roof then something is missing. If it is then i bet it's this rubber strip.

ignore what I said about the rubber on top of the screen with fins/ribs - thats just confusing the issue!

I'll try and take a picture tomorrow and post it here if it helps.

Cheers Phil, I think you know where I mean now and I have got a gap but if you could take a pic for us that would be great. Thanks for your response.?

Phil, is this seal connected to the window side or the roof lining side ?

I think its on the roof lining side, fixed to the leading edge roof bar. I'll take a picture at lunchtime when I take my Scala alloys to be beadblasted and powder coated.

Cheers Phil. I've just rang the coach trimmers to see if he has a seal hanging about but he said that there isn't. Sh1te !
