i didnt think it would happen but....
« on: 02 February 2011, 14:13 »
my little mk2 golf has grown on me ...

up untill now the cars ive kept the longest and enjoyed the most have been mk3 capris ,  e30 bmws , e21 bmw and a landrover defender

but ive had 45 cars in the last 4 years,  I got the mk2 because it was surprisingly cheap to insure for something not boring to drive afte ri got banned from driving a wrongfull case of no insurance thanks to natwest fraud prevention ... but lets not get into that. i wasnt sure i was going to like the golf generaly leaning more towards RWD cars  but its fun there is no denying that   its a 1.8 8v digi and it seems pretty quick for what it is so it may have been played with  but i dont know when or what had the rocker cover off today and the cam in it looks very "new"  doesnt look like a 150k mile old cam...

since picking it up for £800  like this

i have replaced the missing front spoiler  thanks to a chap on here.

got rid of the rather gash wheels and fitted some 15" bbs RA s

replaced the alternator

fixed the rickety seats

oil change filter change air filter plugs leads dizzy cap rotor arm

new rad

and at this moment in time its waiting for its new front arches and side skirts to be put on

plans for the moment

p slots , gear linkage kit , lots of lowering , replace all the brakes , weld up the battery tray , replace the nackered old speakers and continue to use and abuse it on a daily basis

considering an abf swap aswell but wiring is not my strong suit .. lol

i'm the same bought mine a year ago as a project. i liked new cars but they cost too much to maintain
spent a little putting this one the way i want it. Wouldn't part with it. For an old car it goes well and turns heads

what more do i need?

A very nice pair of cars there, but I can't help thinking sprout99's looks a little high for a 16V.

Mines very standard, but sits lower than that.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Hi,

I did an ABF swap using the digi 2 wiring.Straight forward as all the parts are usable.Only have to rewire the injectors to run like the digi2 ones.MK3 injection works pulse injection(motronic) individually fired injectors.Other than that you'll find amazing power on the car even at low revs right up to 6800rpms.

Go for an ABF it will be good fun.If you can maintain the 020 gearbox or get a mk3 8v code (AMC/CHE) rod change gearbox, you will get better gearing for the 4th and 5th(0.84) as mk2 8v (0.89). 400 revs lower on 5th gear.

Good luck and nice car.I love the mk2 to bits.

regards
