home made headliner - opinions
« on: 30 January 2011, 21:56 »
ive wanted to repair my sagging headliner for some time. stripped the car today, and found that the headliner has
been badly repaired before.  ive been toying with the idea of using some nicer fabric anyway, and was thinking about making my own version of the bad foam thing.

what does everyone think about making one from the fiberglass resin kits, and people use for boot builds?

alright m8 i've not used the fibre glass kit but would it not b easier just to get another roof liner and cover it with whatever u wanted?

i've just trimmed my a,b,c, pannels and retrimmed the roof (material think was 20 quid) also colour coded all cream plastics (mk4) in the cabin exept last job of seat belt hangers.

did a fair bit of research after using heacy duty upholstry spray glue wich bonded ok but any trinned edges seemed to be weak so  after reading an old post i bought eveo stci 528 from screw fix and seems to hold well.

didnt aswer question i guess but good luck with it

hey dude. yeah it would be easier, but the material is really really aweful and breaks soo easily. i dont think id get it back in in one piece. ive re trimmed a few things, and have no worries about that side of it. just have no experience with using fiberglass

im just wondering if
a. do the cilps in the middle of the head lining just hold the material in, or do they clip the headlining to the roof?
b.  if not would fiberglass be to heavy?

alright m8 a head linner form srappers wouldnt cost u much at all and all your needing it is to retrim lol this bit worrying i never had any clips in the centre of my roof liner lol but mine back in and seems to sit fine without any but did read of people putting glue onto the two boards on the roof and gluing the head linner onto them to make it secure.

hopefully someone can help you with the fibre glass issue m8 and either way mind and post some pics so we can have a look at it
