The best one I've seen recently involved three or four camera's dotted externally around the house.  Two of which were on automated gyro's with motion trackers.  There were also a few infa-red projectors dotted around so that the camera's could see perfectly, but no light visible to the human eye was on.

The motion sensors picked up any movement in either gardens and the automated camera's moved to film whatever was moving.

This guy lived in what is considered a nicer area, but had people coming onto his property trying all the doors and windows on hi cars and house at least once a week.  Unfortunately they only got into his van on one particular occasion that he forgot to lock the side door.

This was also a fairly expensive system.  A camera mounted facing the garden/driveway, one covering the car and one covering the back garden would be sufficient as long as you have spotlights too.  All of which could be linked to motion sensors, so both the camera's and lights come on with movement.  This can then be linked to a separate recorder, or an computer to record.

Also, keep all valuables out of sight, and always close curtains....

The system my sisters got is simply for now 2 cameras which are motion activated which starts the recording to a 360gb hardrive basically. There also as jimmy said infra red dots so able to record at night as the footage shows on the link i put in earlier not really visable to the eye just very dim red l.e.d dots around the lense seems to work good.
They have theres outside where you can see in the clip of those thieves which shows there back door area just under the camera, the garage side door and the ass end of the golf. They have the other situated in the back garden showing most the garden and the original patio doors they broke into on there first visit.

There abit gutted though because that night they came back on wednesday the back garden camera was unplugged by mistake so they could have got more footage of the thieving sodders when they smashed the garage window which is in view of the back garden camera !

They have also now bought a fire proof safe which is bolted to the attic beams with all there spare keys and passports ect which i think is a good idea incase of fire if nothing else! Also alarm the bottom of the house at night and keys are permantely upstairs left out of doors including window keys! It only takes one thing like this to open your eyes how easy it is to get into your house and really put a downer on yourself my sisters in bits i even stayed at her house while her husband was away this weekend in the wait something would happen just wanted to catch the ba3tards.
anyway hope everyones  problems gets sorted out as they should!

I'm not sure if I mentioned that the police have caught 2 of the 3 that got into my house. They are linking them to at least 5 other car key robberies they know about. It is linked to a much bigger operation so might be linked to this one.

I actually test drove a GTD on Saturday, but afterwards also drove the GT 140. I would still be a little concerned about having the GTD to be honest. I'm going to drive a few other cars this week and make a final decision next week. By which time the cheque from esure will probably have arrived. I need to set my sights a bit lower now really becuase the cost of insurance is going to be a lot higher.

Outside my work yesterday was a brand new 5 door Audi A1 S Line in black with 18" alloys (without the two tone colour roof option which I'm not keen on) like the picture below. Its the first one I've seen in the flesh and tbo I thought it looked really nice, well built and sporty (it makes the polo look pants in comparision imo).

My sisters other half is a senior technician for Audi and had a drive of this model last week and really rated it. He commented on how nippy it was for a 1.4 engine).

Anyway I had a little flirt with one on the Audi site and the car is also pretty good value.
i.e. A1 S line 1.4 TFSI 6 speed @ 16,570.00 GBP
I added on some nice options i.e. 18" alloys, leather and sat nav and the price came out @ 20,645 GRB

Anyway you may or may not like it, its just a suggestion.....  :undecided:...... Queue the abuse from my fellow GTi lovers

I've now seen 2 A1s in the flesh and they do have something about them. Agree re the two time roof - reminds me of that Citreon that had a removable roof.

Not the cheapest car around but will be a bit of a city stealth car me thinks. Just watch for the mummsy brigade catching on to it though!

Thanks Buck I'm glad its just not me that has taking a liking to the A1's.

p.s your right about the Citreon roof comparison. That made me chuckle. Although not so bad in white with the black roof as below on this top of the range model.

Hmm nice.

One I saw was in Red and hte other was in white but had a grey/graphite roof that went well with the wheels

I read that they are also looking at making an S1 as they have developed a new engine that will now fit - that'll be a pocket rocket!

I'm yet to see an A1 in the flesh, would like to see one alongside a Polo.

As it happened I was just looking at used Audis and noticed one with the colour coded roof which caught my eye! It was fully loaded for about £18k, but I told myself to stop being silly and moved back to looking at A3s. Anyway I'll sneak a look at one on Thursday when i'm off work to do a bit of car shopping. On the Golf front my dealer was trying to sell me a new GT 140, but it was red and apparently "the only one in the country" which is in stock with the bits I want on it. I really don't want a red car, but thats a whole other post/argument.

Was there someone on here that works for a VW dealer that I can PM?
