Waaah Misfire!
« on: 23 January 2011, 13:14 »
Hi All

Well, everything was going just fine until i decided to service our V reg 2.0 GTI.  New plugs, oil, oil filter, and air filter.

Now when its ticking over it sounds fine and when it's revved its ok but when it's driving and you boot it, it stutters and when it's under load (when I have it in 3rd, when it should be 2nd gear) it also does it.  Ive made sure the plugs are in tightly and the leads are on correctly.  I'm also going to check to make sure ive not accidentally detached one of the HT leads from the metal part that goes over the plug.

Failing that I have no idea what could be wrong as as I'm pretty crap at car stuff i'm not sure what to do next.....?

Oh, the ABS light is on but the levels, pads and discs are fine.  Is there a vacuum pipe that could be off (i read that that can effect the mixture)  Also the plugs are also very soot covered already and its only done 10 miles since I changed them

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Jim

sounds like you could have an air leak as you say.  Did you gap the plugs?  What make plugs did you put in it?  (cheap parts can cause misfires)

>Oh, the ABS light is on but the levels, pads and discs are fine
co-incidental possibly?  Need a code read to see what its moaning about.

James
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Cheers James....

The plugs are Bosch but no, I didn't gap them.  The ABS light was on before all this happened so maybe just a coincidence.  I'm sure it's plug/lead related but maybe i'm missing something..........?

tried putting the old leads back on?  Are they the 3 or 4 electrode - in which case they don't need gapping anyway!

Good news.  When it doubt put it back as was and retest.

Does it run ok with new leads and old plugs?

Cheers,

James
