Just for a change I have an 8v that will not idle properly.
I have been reading through all the posts about poor idle and the problems I have are similar but not the same.
My idle speed does not vary, it is always about 400rpm (not comfortable when stationary). Worse, if you put the clutch in above 1100rpm it just stalls, then I swear at it.
1st thought was weak electrics changed the HTs, plugs, etc - no change
Then checked all the vacuum hoses etc (Fords are a classic for this), didn't really see any loose.
Mine is a really early MK2 (A-plate) and my brother's D-plate has loads of extra boxes and hoses on the injection system! Do they all have Idle Stablisation Valves, because if mine has one I can't see it, to fix it!

Any guess would be helpful because if it carries on like this I am just going to go mad and drive it into the nearest Volvo to kill it!

I had major problems with mine. Died at every opportunity.  I changed Idle stabilisation valve and relay,, Temp sender Coldstart sensor, Warm up valve, air inlet valve, in fact you name it, I tried it. Going back to basics I checked the fuel filter and it was clogged to the hilt. I flushed out the fuel tank and replaced the filter and got myself a new car. Or it felt like a new car. It now drives like a dream. Hope it helps
