strongest VR6 for boost
« on: 15 January 2011, 16:31 »
never thought i would be considering tuneing a boat anchor but may just be that in this occasion a boat anchor is what is needed.

this is a relativly  lowbudget excersis so it'll be running on stock internals  and we'll ether use multi headgaskets or a lazercut plate with a gasket ether side to correct compression ratio issues.

so anyone what sort of  power / torque will stock internals take  ? or boost have people manged to run.    it's only going to be running in short bursts and not worried about melting pisons as that looks like a dager we'll just drown it out by throwing more toxic vodka down it throat.

the turbo we have and are planning on useing should  be good for around 40-45 psi ( if we ask for it )  and will be attached to a  boost engine not the vr itself
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

My mates running '419bhp' on full boost, 18psi I think. There's a thread on vr6oc about it somewhere, I'll dig it out when I'm not on my phone.
Stock internals, obviously a home made jobbie, huge turbo, f@@k a duck does it shift!

EDIR: more about 38psi

You could go 2.9-3.00 litre on that block if its bored out right might be wrong, but I would expect the person who is doing the porting and mods would have a table value for the amount of pressure it could handle?
But over 400BHP would be hard and to the limit! so 2.5 bar or just over would be used my guesstimate as you're fuel pressure would be insane just to match the flow of air being used up?

I'm not planning on doing any serious headwork to it at all.  i'll probs just strip and inspect the head possobly tricut the seats and port match.

don't plan on doing any boreing or new pistons  this is going a to a pikey cheep built all it got to do is rip down the odd 1/4 mile and try make reasonable times up the odd hill.

looks like i'm going to go with the 2.8 as found a cheep mk3 donor with a duff HG so i'll rip the motor out of that tomorrow and give it a quick once over,  have come up with a really realy nasty plan for lowering the cr.

i'm thinking i may have a go at welding some ali rings round the outside of the std pistons so i can keep the piston squish when i add the horrendously thick spacer plate   if welding the rings on dosent work it don't matter as i have a spare set of used 2.8 pistons in the shed.

i'm thinking of a target cr of 8.0 : 1  thats a lot lower than needed but it'll help it out a bit. and running it with a heavy mix of meth should keep it cool
as for getting the fuel in i'll just buzzup a log manifold and stack injectors  in each runner  so i can have massive cc/min fuel deliver possible and decent spray at low throttel and flat out.

we want a pikey cheep 500 ponies

You can get issues with running a spacer plate with the timing chain being too short, all subject to how thick your going to make it.
