Mk3 on Mercedes hubcaps
« on: 13 January 2011, 21:33 »
Anyone running old school mercedes hubcaps on their mk3's???  Thinking of doing it and wondered if anyone here was already doing it.

If you are post a pic with the size of the wheel as I've heard you can get them up to 16" diameter...

They would 14" or 15" if you mean the metal ones, all the later plastic ones are 15" or 16".

That's what i suspected but my friend is convinced he saw metal ones in 16".  I suspect they were coachbuilt or he made it up.

If there are ones to fit a 15" wheel then the actual diameter would be nearer 16", so maybe that's where he got confused.

Either way, I love the look of them.

They're the ones I love and am looking to get, although that set seems somewhat over priced at £80.  Here is one car I've seen that belongs to a friend of a friend...

Really uncertain on that especially on a bog standard red Golf. it looks like some kinda granny wagon. Although it's not to say i don't think they could work well on another vehicle with the right styling.

I think that maybe they do need spacers behind them, but i like small diameter wheels.

What styling would you suggest??? I'm interested in hearing your opinions

Yeah some spacers would definitely make a difference i reckon. Im in two minds though if they suit the mk3 with it's rounded styling, the more i look at them the  more i just think they should be on a mk2.

Ive just found these slightly different ones on a mk2 which i personally feel would look better on the mk3 in this instance.

and ermm...these on a monster truckish Polo

I know it's a very Marmite thing to do but wouldn't these look at home on a ratted motor with roof rack, white wall tyres  and all that jazz?
