how do I get out a rounded off caliper bolt?
« on: 13 January 2011, 16:46 »
I was going to fit my gti brakes today but the bottom caliper bolt I need to undo to swing the caliper up is rounded off good and proper. Tried hammering in an allen key bit and a torx bit but its not having it. I don't have a welder to welding on another bolt is out of the question. Any ideas?

Could try these, but arnt the caliper bolts 17mm, if so they prob do other sizes for sale. Mines opposite to yours and won't screw in, thats confusing!

mine have a round head and are torx bits inside. I'm gonna try ramming a socket on it or maul grips. But in my experience they can be real tight

Are they hardened steel, maybe you could get some small stilsons on it, will probs be too hard for the teeth to bite though

Irwin extractors will move anything.

Or more likely shear off.

Get some heat on it is probably your best bet...

Or go find a set of 280mm brakes, complete with the hubs and complete a worthwhile upgrade.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Already bought vented 239mm discs and brembo pads now

I've got some small stilsons, not sure if theres enough room in there to get a grip on though. I'l have to remove the rubber bit that surrounds it 1st...
