Front wipers
« on: 12 January 2011, 19:18 »
The other morning I stupidly put my wipers on when they were frozen to the screen because of the frost.  Ever since ive been paranoid that ive done some damage to them.  Am I just being paranoid?

Also the auto wipers seem to have lost some sensitivity.  Is it possible the two things are linked?  Or do you think ive just knocked the button which adjusts their sensitivity?  If someone could put my mind at rest that would be much appreciated!  Cheers

Do they still work? I've tried to whip them once when they were still frozen on and not had any problems. Obviously its not great for the motor but I doubt doing it a few times would cause any damage.

Yeah they still work ok.  I was a bit worried bout the motors, but to be fair ive done the same with other cars and they have been fine.  Im just a bit anal when it comes to my Gti cos I loves it so much!  Cheers AlanD!

on a (kinda) related note I have noticed that during the recent cold weather my wipers seem to go at one slow speed regardless of the speed i set on the stalk.  after car heats up a bit problem goes away.

I've done the same thing myself mate and they're OK, my advice (which ill follow in future myself too) is when its icy, physically prize the blades away from your screen (carefully) an inch along their length before you get in your car so you've unstuck any iced rubber.
I know there's not much room because they tuck themselves away but you can get a hand to the blades enough to do it! Just take care not to tear the rubber if it is stuck!

Best to Park Front Wipers Horizontal

(Switch off Ignition-Leave key in / Intermittent Wipe & Wipers will go upright.

Easy then to Free from 'screen. (also this position when washing car)
