Best way to bring 1.3 handling up to scratch
« on: 12 January 2011, 10:03 »
I currently have a MK2 1.3 Golf (first car). It goes alright for a little old 1.3 but it doesn't corner at all well! It's got so much roll on it I'm suprised it hasn't rolled over, and you don't need to be going quick for it to get a lean on either!

I could tart about seeing if all was ok and replacing bits, but it might just be as better to "upgrade" a bit while I'm at it. I know how well GTI's handle so I'm after some of that flatness in the corners!!

Are boge shocks on eibach springs still the way to go? I'd suggested GTi suspension on here before but someone suggested it's not suitable because of the difference in engine weight. Any one recommend anything?

P.S Can't afford adjustables :(

handeling recipe is the same for all.

on the rear - GTi rear beam with new bushes,   add an extra external ARB if you want to really stiffen it up

on the frount -  new wishbones ( welding them helps but optional )  TT rear bush and poly frount bush.  FIt A GTi antirollbar ( mases big bifferance if there isn't one )   then a set of uprated gas dampers  and springs to taste - 30-40 mm is optimal
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
