Of course a petrol is faster revving Alan you tool. They work on completely different cycles. Petrol produce power high up the rev band, diesel produces it much lower down and everything from combustion to pv diagram is different. You simply cannot compare the two in terms of noise as its a pointless argument.

I personally wouldn't count it as one no mate. Like I mentioned in my previous post the way the engines develop their power are poles apart. What's the point of having a fast revving diesel, when there is no power to be gained from making it do it?

I see what your saying and agree but do you not think driving a car in a spirited way that revs high and fast is more enjoyable than changing gear every 2 seconds when you reach 4k?

Im not trying to say diesels are sh!t, far from it. From a motoring and driving experience point of view petrol is simply better. The only reason anyone has a diesel is because they want better MPG. Why have a 170 GTD diesel when you can have a more powerful, better sounding 210 2.0T petrol in the GTI? Because you want 45MPG. Simples.
