Cold air feed!
« on: 01 January 2011, 17:37 »
Hi again, had a good search for posts about cold air feeds, but where can I mount one! Lots of people have obviously fitted one but no one specifies where the feed is coming from! I have a piperx panel filter in my airbox but don't really want to drill the box if I can help it. My intention is to bore out the existing hole into the box, and get some oversized pipe to feed into it from somewhere. Obviously it's gonna get a much better feed if its near fresh air, rather than behind the headlight or in the wing as it is standard. The only place I can see is from the bumper vents, but the pipe would be extremely close to the alternator and belts, and as it's lowered, and low down anyway, I'm worried about water ingress. Any ideas please!!!!!?

I ran mine from the bumper vent and had no issues with water ingress.

I would say the lower bumper vent above the splitter is best place, there was a guy on here selling a nicer type vent vortex type that allowed you to fit a air intake pipe on to it cant think of the name of them but I had some on my old VR with the intake pipe fitted plus they looked nice to ill see if I can find the link.

I used to run a Bonrath inlet hose kit on my 8v with no problems...sold the car, and the new owner ended up hydrolocking the engine as it sucked up water from a section of flooded road.
So beware...

But, I ran the hose from bumper to airbox for a few years with no issues.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....

Doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to put it anywhere else does it! Oh well, just have to run the risk and make sure I avoid big puddles then! Will try and find some ducting over the next week to fit, and get some pics up when its done. Thanks for replies all!
