Will let you know, cheers mate.

Dad got a TB today, went to turn the car round, went onto the road and it died. Rolled it down the hill, stripped it there and then and then found it was the wrong throttle body.

My fault, should have checked. It's off a 92 so therefore has less pins then the one I need. I swapped the top of it over though containing the injector.

No help.

Eventually got it going and it took 20mins going round quiet roads to get 20seconds up the road. Used an amazing amount of fuel.

Disconnect O2 sensor, no change. Changed temp sensor, no changed. No visible airleaks unless it has a massive manifold leak, not detected by spraying carb cleaner all around it.

What else can it be? Changed the fuel pump relay as there was a spare (working) in the car, no help. There was fuel in the pipes up top when I took them off. It's also using stupid amounts of fuel, so I'm positive the pump is OK.

What else can it be? Unless it really is something like the distributor or leads, but they are all sparking.

Timing is fine.

Have to get it returned and get another elsewhere.

Timing definatley isnt 180deg out?
Try doing a compression check(with throttle wide open) see what reading you get, these engines are prone for the headgasket going badly between pots 1 and 2 giving all sorts of weird problems. When it went on hers it made such a weird deep noise,i thought the airbox had fell off.
Im still swayed to the throttle body though mate.

Cheers for that mate.

Mentioned headgasket and apparently it overheated twice, once badly before trouble.

Nobody told me.

Proper weird one with the fuel suddenly going up, but the fuel pump is forcing a lot of pressure.

Engine is running PROPER deep, so deep you can take the air filter off and it makes no difference.

No airleaks, confirmed. Worried.

Just spent £200 insuring the poxy thing. BADLY need it next Friday onwards.

Gonna take home the headgasket testing tools, do a  compression test as you say and see what it brings up. If it is, I'll swap the insurance and tax over to my Golf and use that.

Haha nice one. May well come and raid it.

I've got a 1.6MPi, sitting still cause insurance is stupid.

My dad's got the 1.8SPI we're having trouble with. Needs a car so if the h/g has gone, chuck the insurance and tax on mine.

Cheers though, see what tomorrow brings.
