Most quality tuning companies like ours will offer remaps for older ECU's on an ECU postal service basis so you can have them for a similar price to a tuning box, as long as you can remove the ECU and do without your car for a day or two while it's away.
As for your comments about it taking 2 minutes - yes to the customer it may seem a lot of money for a 5 minute ECU flash. But you don't see the level of investment of time, money and repeat testing that goes into perfecting the maps.
Would you really care if a tuner spent 5 hours or 5 minutes, if the net result was the same to you?
Do you think a tuner that spends 5 hours on your car is going to do a better job than one who spends 5 minutes but is installing a remap that has been thoroughly tried and tested?
