Need Your Help!!!!

Hi guys

Really need some help, due to the freezing sh!tty weather my rear brake keeps freezing on in a morning, and i cant move my car, ive been told its my handbrake cable thats freezing and not much i can do with it.

Does anyone else have this problem or has anyone got any ideas that will help me out?
Anything would be appreciated, by the way its a 1990 mk2 gti

Either stuck callipers or frozen cables, do a search, been covered thousands of times.

The key is to not apply your handbrake during winter.

+1 if where you live is flat (not on a hill) then dont put the handbrake on and leave the car in gear so it dosnt roll.

Light a bonfire under your car, to thaw it out...

Get an empty washing up bottle and fill will hot water.  Squirt over caliper and cable.

if its cold and i have been driveing tough much wet and likely to frreze hard  i'll often apply the handbrake lightly while driveing allong to get the brakes warm so they dry out and the pads don't freeze to the drum/disk

release handbrake then get underneath and have a look (obviously chock wheels if on a slope  ) if the cables are all loose in the caliper levers, then its the calipers that have siezed. if the cables are still all tight to the levers, then its the cables.  cables pretty easy job to change, undo nuts at handbrake end then drag em out. main dificulty is the cables siezing into the tubes under the tunnel, or the cables sticking into the holders on the calipers.
