MISS FIRE

Hi this is my first post and new to the GTI world and looking for some advice. My mk3 golf GTI has started to miss fire at very low revs. It revs fine under load and pulls through all the gears. its only when i get to normal traveling speed and lightly touching the accelerater it starts to miss fire. it has a new dizzy cap rotor arm good plugs and leads. if anyone has any thoughts please post a replie.

Possibly the ignition coil. Quite a common fault and easy to fix!

worth checking the crank sensor wiring too - mine did this too.  The wiring gets burnt away over time etc.  Its under and behind the oil filter at the front of the engine.  Mine looked like:  http://javalins.wordpress.com/2010/03/13/dodgy-sensor-wiring/

But try the ignition coil first.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

thanks chaps lots of things to check just trying to work out the cheapest way round to start replacing things  :undecided:

ECU relay is cheapest and easiest! About 12 quid from main dealer and its up above the fuse box.

Well I'm not a betting man and dont have £100 to burn but from what the op says it sounds exactly like the ECU relay to me.
I had the problem for 6 months so know the syptoms very well.

And harlemex, what is the problem then in your opinion?

Oh and it wont be wasted anyway as most Mk 3's get a duff ECU relay in their lifetime as it is one of the most common faults! :tongue:
