ats cups refurb
« on: 09 December 2010, 01:02 »
i'm currently mid way through refurbing some ats cups, i'm planning on doing the centres black but keeping the dish/lip polished. Once i managed to get through the lacquer the dishes aren't as bad as i originally thaught, but the lips seem to have taken a beating. Is there anything i can use to fill this but still polish it up ? or are my only options getting them welded or completely changing my plans and spraying the whole wheel ?

any help appreciated cheers

if you fill and polish you will notice big time.. i dont think there is a lot you can do if the lips are dead then just fill and paint..

If there is only light to moderate kerbing to the rim, then it can be sanded out till it disappears, then polished
best way to deal with it is to use a DA sander to carefully re profile the lip, starting with 120 grit, 180, 320, then wet/dry 400. 800 1200, then polish, any chunks that are missing should be TIG welded, cracks and the wheel should be regarded as scrap! you should be OK to sand out any damage that is up to 2.5mm deep...
