doesnt matter what year mk2 you have, you always keep the std cables. pre-88 mk2s used different shape calipers which means you have to mount MK3/4 calipers upside down, or modify the cable routing. you can swap to later spec cables as they'll be way too short, the difference is down to the style of the handbrake lever not so much the way the calipers are mounted to the beam.
as above need conversion hoses to fit MK4 units, later mk3 units have the same design of handbrake mech so dont sieze as much as mk2, but are a direct swap onto your car. basically look for a handbrake spring, if it has one its a mk2 caliper, if not its later mk3
