Grand's 1.4 (NCB builder)
« on: 29 November 2010, 12:20 »
Story starts and ends so far with VW

When i was 17 got a 300 pound mint condition red polo mk2 was wonderful until i couldn’t afford it so had to sell it that’s the early days in a nutshell

Now 19 and being the manager of a pub turning over 20k a week, time for new car then this came along

basically it’s a storm grey 1.4 bought it 2 months ago from a private seller, who was running the thing dry so picked it but noticed the day i picked it up someone had keyed the perfect body work, matching colour coded bumpers in storm grey, full service history and 2 owners before me.

After picking it up gave it full service and filled the tank no problems with the engine at all or anything else apart from the key scratch which needed fixing

Gave it some little mods

Painted front badge black also grills same colour as car, also tinted rear lights and front indicators and reflectors

Pictures to follow

Update
received a nice set of hella quads, from jackovw a member of the forums  for 125 pound with 2 sets of covers and 4 replacement chambers

- Bonnet bra of eBay, started getting chips on front of bonnet which was annoying.

next ideas

latest news cleaning the throttle body after buying a vag com lead but the motor at the back of the throttle body went, so got a quote for 370 pound from a garage to fix had a look round some scrappy no luck so got some help from someone on the forum who found this off eBay ended up paying 40 pound :)

Plus got some new GTI rear lights as someone smashed by back drivers side light

Basically that’s it so far trying to do this on a budget, this Thursday plan to change the throttle body and then give it a good run, seems a shame just having it parked up, also change rear lights to GTI ones.

Spent so far

Bonnet bra – 30
Hella quads – 125
Service – 40 for parts

Looking for some information on fixing two key scratches on body work driver’s door and panel behind, which one is 30cm one is 60cm, also a good wheel refurb company near Chester

What colour would be good with storm grey I’m thinking white what do you guys think?

Can't beat a budget build.

What is the motor on the back of the throttle body you mention?

Quite like the wheels. Think they are wolfrace. See them a lot on 6n polo's. Not sure if they were standard fit or not. I think white might be a bit of a harsh contrast against your car. A dark silver or anthracite could look good.

dont quote me on this but, as far as im aware obviously you have the throttle cable that is connected to the throttle body and on the aex modes mabey others there is a little servo on the back that reads how much the valve is open by and the signal is sent to the ECU of how much petrol to put into the engine.

as this had jammed open and bust according to the ecu there is basically no engine so it kept reving and reving trying to find a signal but couldent as soon as i disconnected the wire on the top of the throttle body it idled perfectly but drive it down the road and it would cut out as of lack of petrol.

i may be right or wrong but dont quote as im not 100% sure that what it was for, still learning this stuff :)

also the idea of a dark silver or anthracite for a colour alloys would look rather sweet might go ahead with that, gonna try the wheels myself, if anyone can answer this question obviously you sand the alloy down then primer then coat it my question is the clear coat of  top is that just clear laquer to protect the alloy or something else?

good buy with the lights, I know jacko personally and the car the lights come off, mk3 wise there isn't a lot he doesn't have! I'm not a fan of the wheels myself, I'd go on the hunt for some cheap replacements if it was me, maybe some tatty estorils maybe? I had a decked storm grey vento on estorils I refurbed white, maybe this will give you some ideas?
