I took this out when I got my car. It wasn't a VW product but supplied by a 3rd party and called "Smart" protection. I paid £299 for 3 years cover. If you get and scratches or dents that are no bigger than 15 cm diameter they are covered for repair.

Some Dentmaster type companies do an excellent job of dent removal as long as they can gain access. They charge the trade in the region of £30 per panel regardless of how many dents are on it.

The scratch removal is for want of a better word, shi7. This gets a quick flat down and a squirt with mismatching paint from an airbrush. To people who care about cars, these repairs stand out a mile.

Now to me £300 pays for alot of dent removals in 3 years. It's not as if people are going to fix every one as soon as they notice it. And as for the scratch removal, in most cases a scratch that has been softened with some polish and a bit of elbow grease looks far better than a blob of the wrong shade of paint.

It's basically another form of insurance sold by VW as a way of eeking a few more quid out of their customers.

Imo, there is no such thing as scratch or dent protection. If a person wants to scratch your car they will, if someone wants to dent it, they will. If you hit a car etc, it will scratch and dent it.

If you do some proper detailing on your car, you'll get the same 'protection' they call it for a fraction of the price.

I think you might be confusing it with that over priced paint sealent rubbish.

This is sort of pay in advance dent removal.

You could use something like the nano sealants from aquartz, and although the product is very good. It still wont protect the car from scratches or dents.

This thread made me laugh.
As Kev says nothing can protect the car from dents and scratches except if you don't use it at all, leave it covered completely in a temperature controlled garage etc, etc.
Anyway, why pay in advance for something that might not happen?
And there is always that cheeky get-out clause to contend with + the job done by the contractors will probably be crap.
Waste of money IMO.

It does not protect against scratches and dents it protects against the price of correcting any scratches and dents you may get.Its just another insurance.
