Squealing!!
« on: 11 November 2010, 21:34 »
My car has started making a squealing noise whilst driving. It gets progressively quieter as you speed up and disappears completely when stopped. I'm reckoning it's brakes and there's a stone or grit or something stuck cos to say the yard where I work doesn't have the best of roads is a huge understatement. Canna get at it to have a proper look 'til the weekend what with the dark nights and no space in the garage. As I said I reckon it's brakes, that's where I'll go first, but I just wondered if there was anything else I should be taking a look at.

Will do, but would that stop squealing whilst stationary? I tried moving the steering wheel when I was stopped and there was no noise. I was gonna be checking belts and the like just in case.

Cheers

Wheel bearing tends to be a thrumming/drumming noise rather than a squeeling noise though  :undecided:

Job done, a bit of stone had got it's self wedged up between the disc and brake shield...phew!! thank goodness that's all it was!!. Checked all the belts etc. as well while I was at it. They're all sound. While I was in aboot there I decided to take the rocker cover of and give it a tidy up. Ended up painting it (black). I also took the rocker cover breather piece of and gave it a good clean through. It was full of emulsified oil and a bit gunky.
