V-Power unleaded- Worth the extra?
« on: 04 November 2010, 23:41 »
Hiya guys.

On the way home my fuel light came on so I pulled in for fuel. I decided to treat my 1.8T to a full tank of V-POWER and a dose of redex.
It wasn't til the bill went over £67 pound til I thought sh!t, what am I doing

My question is this.............. Is V-POWER or any other premium unleaded worth the extra? At my local shell its £1.17 for regular or £1.29 for the V-POWER but is the extra 12p doing anything for my engine or performance?

Then there's the redex, is that doing anything worth while?

makes a big diff, but you wont notice straight away! after a few tanks you will notice. but when you go back to normal unleaded you will see the power diffrence

Cheers Sharki, the good thing is a rarely use me car with me working away from home so only really fill it up once a fortnight so I can afford to use V-POWER I suppose it would be a different if I had to fill up every week but ill use V-Power from now on and see if I notice the difference

makes no difference to mpg or performance on my VR6 but it made my old mk2 8v gti run much better - stopped it from pinking

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Redex pissed my engine off, felt slower less responsive even though I had constantly been on the Vee-powa for a long time, took about 3 tanks to get that feeling back. Think redex is a gimmick, pretty sure its just some oil/lube with some sticky ass red dye? As modern fuels already are well mixed with additives to make it as effective as possible?

higher octane fuels tend to burn cleaner aswell so you dont get as much carbon build up in your engine,
